Platipus
If you ever find yourself wondering whether Platipus only do trance (and let’s face it, they do a fine job too) then think again because with their second offering in the ‘Art of Chill’ series they well and truly cement their sofa to the ceiling of the chill out room. Mixed by Jon Hopkins, undoubtedly one of the hottest names in the ambient scene at the moment, whose CV must be looking rather tasty having released two critically acclaimed albums, remixed for several major artists and co-written with Brian Eno and the Cranberries’ Noel Hogan. Over the two CDs (compiled by Platipus Record’s Simon Berry) Hopkins spoils us with a seamlessly smooth mix of classy, inspirational melodies including contributions from the likes of Chris Coco, Bliss, Union Jack, Aphex Twin, Ulrich Schnauss and Brian Eno to mention a few, and also includes two of his own tracks for good measure, ‘Cold Out There’ and ‘Second Sense’. Take my word for it, if you are searching for the chill out album that really hits the spot, then look no further, this is outstanding. AT
